Left Behind - Part Deux

I'm sad to say that I am not taking Oscar with me to Chicago. He will be staying in Dallas. This breaks my heart - but it's not practical to have him there for the many reasons I've named before. Alex will be adopting him and that's a very good thing. He'll get to stay in the same house and he'll still have kitty as a companion. Not to mention the yard and the nicer weather he'll enjoy here in Dallas.

Public Restroom Etiquette

The people who use the bathroom at the Fossil home office have made me realize that we are in desperate need of some ground rules. Here’s what I’ve compiled so far.

Stall/Urinal separation – if I’m using the urinal on the left and the two next to me are open, don’t come in and use the one right next to me. Skip one and leave a buffer. It’s just more comfortable and less awkward. Same goes in the stalls. Look for the feet, don’t sit right next to me. At minimum leave one stall open, preferably two.

Urinal Talk – Don’t do it. The conversation is forced and weird and I’m just trying to pee and get out.

No Cell Zone – Don’t text or talk on your phone while you’re doing your business. What would you do if the person on the other end of the line asked, “what are you doing?”

No Magazines – This is ok at home, but not at work. So weird hearing the pages flip as you’re sitting there.

Keep the noises to a minimum – I realize we’re not all super regular. If you have to strain or grunt to make a shdooby, then you need to eat more fiber. I don’t want to hear you working one out. I also don’t want to hear any massive explosions. If you know it’s going to be a doozy, wait until the bathroom clears out to let it rip or mask it with a simultaneous flush or loud cough. Oprah recommends laying a cushioning layer of toilet paper in the water. This softens the dropping/splashing noise.

Courtesy Flush – this is a common practice. When your shdoobs stank, flush it down even if you’re not finished. This prevents the entire bathroom from being tainted and makes it bearable for others to enter.

Flush Check – Automatic flushing toilets are great. But they don’t always flush and they don’t always get it all with one flush. Check your shit before you leave the stall. No one wants to walk into that. I once walked into a stall to find a piece of poop the size of a child’s arm. I haven’t been the same since.

Hand Washing – washing your hands isn’t just for preventing the spread of the swine flu. It should be done after using the restroom too. Even if you don’t embrace this practice, do it when there are others in the restroom. They are watching you to see if you do. I promise.

One more thing. It has been a winter wonderland today in Dallas. Snow, snow, and more snow! I snuck away at lunch today and built this HIDEOUS snowman with my coworker, Sapna. I was really proud of it until I saw the picture...

WHEEL!

By the way, yes.. that is Wheel of Fortune in the background of the first kitty picture. Only the best game show EVER. I watch it daily after I leave the office while I am cooking dinner. It comes on at 6:30. I would love to be on the show. I know that I would BANK. Pat Sajak - if you're reading this - I have applied via your website. Please choose MEEEEE!

Left Behind - 1 of 2

How do you resist a face like that? Ping Pong was the newest addition to my now dwindling family. Moving to Chicago with my dog and cat isn't a feasible option. The drive up there is 14 hours I think... plus I will be getting settled in, hitting the streets, resume in hand, for a job, and winters with a pet would be a challenge. Taking Oscar out when it's -10 degrees, walking down flights of stairs in old buildings with no elevators... it doesn't make sense to me and I feel like they would be neglected. Alex had stepped up to adopt both of them. The greatest thing about this is there will be little adjustment. They keep the same home, back yard, one of their Dads and so on. I know they will be well taken care of here but I am going to miss them immensely!!! We adopted Ping Pong from our roommate's boyfriend several months ago. He came with food and a litter box. We added an array of toys to the collection, upgraded his food, and had his sharp little claws removed by my amazing veterinarian. He loves to cuddle, especially at night. He will get right under the covers with you and just purr away. MEOW! I could go on forever. These guys are my children!

6 weeks and counting...

Ok. It's been a week since I've posted and I have at least one person who is reading this - thanks, Ryan. ;-) I'll get better about updates, promise. It's T minus 6 weeks until I leave for Murder City. Here's where I'm at. I reserved my Uhaul for March the 30th. I'll load it up that day then leave the next morning on the 31st. I plan to stay in a hotel half way up there and drive in to Chicago some time the afternoon of April the 1st. After taxes and fees, the Uhaul is $549. That's up from my previous quote of $509. Still seems like a lot. I guess $19.99 a day adds up quickly...? Maybe it's all the mileage.

I was asked to turn in a resignation letter at Fossil so they know the last day I'll be in my position. It's March 26th. Mark your calendars! Thanks again, Ryan. I used a resignation letter you wrote for me when I relocated to Dallas from Austin. Still works!

Lastly, I have started collecting boxes for moving and I packed my first box! It was a weird experience. Emotional, exciting, and bittersweet. I feel like a big girl. Why can't I just pack a box and drink a beer? I packed books in case you're wondering:

That's my sweet Kitty, Ping Pong, in the picture. I will have to leave him behind with my dog, Oscar. Oscar has been with me for around 3 years. It makes me REALLY sad to think about leaving those two little nuggets. I'll talk about that in a few days after I get a cute picture of the two of them together. Kitty likes to sleep on Oscar. Oscar is so gentle he doesn't mind. I love it.

Regrets & Opportunities

I have some regrets in life. I regret not speaking up for myself as a kid. I regret not finishing my degree earlier. I regret not buying tickets to the Madonna concert when she passed through Texas in Houston. I regret inappropriate jokes sometime.... ehhh well not really. I start this blog because I have had a nice big whiff of freedom recently. I am newly single and months aways from 30. I realize that there are a lot of things I want to do. We all have the choice to live anywhere we want to and are held back by some pretty insignificant things in life. I'm ready to graduate from Dallas and call Chicago home. I have just over 7 weeks before I plan to leave and I do not want to regret passing up this fleeting thought and staying here. It's time to get out and live my life. So with the fear of regretting this leap of faith, I march on boldly! I have told my employer that I'm relocating and have already sent money for a deposit and first month's rent on an apartment in Chicago. There's no turning back now. I created this blog to journal my exit from Dallas and my adventures to come in the windy city. Let's see where this takes me...
